About the Conference

In early 2025, Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP) intends to launch a day-ahead market—a system that allows customers to buy and sell electricity at financially binding day-ahead prices for the following day, allowing both sellers and buyers to harness the benefits of increased regional power trade. The power pool is actively developing market rules and a trading platform while also developing the necessary market operator and grid coordination functions.

To prepare the region for the launch of a centralised regional power market, EAPP, in partnership with the World Bank and the Government of Kenya, has organised a regional power trade conference that will bring together regulators, utilities, international experts, development partners, and regional stakeholders. The conference will share best practices from other power pools and encourage greater coordination among EAPP stakeholders to further strengthen regional trade and coordination.
