EAPP’s Courtesy Call to the Ethiopia Ministry of Water and Energy
The EAPP Secretary General made a courtesy call to the Ministry of Water and Energy (MOWE) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on 5th July, 2023 at the MOWE headquarters in Addis Ababa. The meeting was graced with the presence of H.E Dr. Eng Habtamu Itefa and the State Minister for Energy Dr. Sultan Wali. The CEO of Ethiopia Electric Power (EEP) Mr. Ashebir Balcha was also in attendance.
During the meeting, the SG briefed the Honorable Minister on the progress EAPP has made towards regional power system integration activities aimed at promoting power trade in the Eastern Africa region, and the challenges encountered during the process. He also thanked the Minister on the continued support that Ethiopia, as host country, has provided to EAPP.
H.E Dr. Ing. Habtamu emphasized the importance of EAPP’s participation in various regional and international fora on energy issues, as they are a platform to promote opportunities and address misunderstandings related to the challenges of EAPP’s development. Additionally, H.E. highlighted the need for diversifying funding sources to implement EAPP’s Action Plan effectively. He then reiterated the commitment of the Government of Ethiopia to support the realization of the objectives of the Eastern Africa Power Pool.
The meeting served as an essential platform for discussions and reaffirming the collaborative efforts of EAPP and the Ethiopian government in advancing regional power integration in Eastern Africa.
